This week’s Tuesday, the Mister and I have attended the look! (Uschi Fellner’s magazine) Women of the Year Awards that took place in the Viennese city hall. I was invited by Humanic and I can’t tell you how excited I was!! Not only was the event super glamorous and the location magical (I haven’t been inside the city hall since my late grandpa had worked there, I was stunned by the beautiful ceremonial hall with lots of huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling), there were so many great women honored that night! I just want to tell you about the three that struck me the most.
Auma Obama (Barack Obama’s sister) was awarded with the World Human Rights Award for her engagement for underprivileged children. No wonder she was honored with the „Deutsche Rednerpreis 2015“ earlier this year, she held a brilliant and moving acceptance speech that will stay in my mind for a long time. Such a strong and impressive woman! Oh, and as a studied Germanist, she held her speech in German btw… no big deal right? 😉
Mother-daughter-duo Christine & Cornelia Wallner were awarded in the category „Health“. DDr. Christine Wallner, who accepted the price also in behalf of her daughter Cornelia, founded a hospital ward in Tansania and in the course of that the community „Africa Amini Alama“. Her speech was also very touching, a very sweet lady and you could tell she totally is taken up in her work.
I was also very impressed by Barbara Panosch, awarded in the category „Children & Career“. The mother of four, who studied building technology, first built a career in that field. Then she decided to study education and care for refugees, as she is now running the Hayat (means life) in Salzburg, an arabic restaurant where refugees work. Also, she’s working as a child minder and is looking after unattended minor refugees.
To wrap this post up, I want to show you the outfit I was wearing that night, not something of great importance compared to the subjects the women mentioned above are dealing with every day, but I thought you might want to see it. Since I don’t own a long evening gown, sweet Laura helped me out with one of her skirts. I paired a longsleeved lace top from Zara, my Valentino Rockstuds and Furla mini bag with it and voilà! Since we were running late as we were driving to Vienna from Graz and didn’t have time to shoot the outfit beforehand, we took some pics afterwards on the streets of the 9th district. I was already a bit tired and think I also look like it, and the quality of the pics is a little blurry, but anyways, I didn’t want to reshoot the outfit during daytime and at least they look a little artsy 🙂
