Today, it’s my turn to share a recipe with you in the course of our „So schmeckt der Advent“ blogger event. After the ladies from Backdirndl, Vienna Fashion Waltz and Foodfreshion have already shown you some delicious ways to sweeten your Advent, I want to share a super simple and fast recipe for baked apples with you.

The reason why I didn’t bake cookies, an Advent classic, is, that it’s going to be Christmas in just four days (four!! omg that year went by in lightning speed!) and I’m sure all of you have had their fair share of cookies already, and you probably won’t be baking any new ones these days. Baked Apples with Marzipan wearestardust So schmeckt der Advent blogger event graz austria recipe food baking verena zilk

Baked apples are a perfect Sunday treat or festive dessert, especially if you serve them with a spoon of vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately, I missed out on the ice cream, but the apples taste pretty good just for themselves. What you need to make these scrumptious fellas (for two people, if you want to use more apples it’s easy to adjust the measurements):

  • two large, red apples
  • three Cantuccini Amaretti (italian almond pastry, I’ve used the ones from Spar Premium)
  • a handful of Marzipan (I tried to buy the normal one intended for baking, but after all the Marzipan was sold out in the third shop and I was just about to give up, I was lucky to find some Lübecker Marzipan  without chocolate in a small shelve yay!)
  • a teaspoon of honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • a dash of rum
  • butter
  • powdered sugar for decoration

Remove the core from the apples. Crumble the Cantuccini (I did that with my mortar). Knead the marzipan, Cantuccini, honey, cinnamon and rum together and fill the apples with the mixture. Preheat the oven on 200°C (392°F), put your apples in a baking dish, put a small piece of butter on each apple and bake them for 10 to 15 minutes.

Powder the apples with some sugar and, if you have a sweet tooth, pour some honey over them. Voilà, you’re ready to enjoy! Super simple, right? But they taste just so gooood!!
